Amilkar started his career in emergency services as an Emergency Medical Technician working in Orange, New Jersey. After serving as a Military Police Officer, Infantryman and Armor Crewman in the Army, he went to work with the Newark, New Jersey Police Department. Rising through the ranks, he worked in lucrative assignments such as the Special Victim’s Unit, Candidate Investigations, Internal Affairs, SCUBA Team, Special Assistant to the Police Director, Public Information Officer and Special Projects. He has also served in the Homeland Security Division-Marine Section, the Traffic Division and was an adjunct instructor at the Newark Police Academy. Prior to his retirement at the rank of Lieutenant, he served as an Integrity Control Officer, Executive Officer, and Tour Commander.
Amilkar earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and is a recipient of the Arnold Fletcher Award for Academic Excellence from Thomas Edison State College. He is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, the Southwestern Law Enforcement Institute of the Southwestern Legal Foundation POLEX (Police Executive Development Course), the Penn State POSIT (Police Supervisor In-Service Training), and the Newark Police Academy of Supervision. Certifications he has held include Weapons of Mass Destruction Radiological/Nuclear Hazardous Materials Technician, Motorcycle Operator Instructor, RADAR Instructor, and LIDAR Operator.
He holds a Certificate of Eligibility as a Teacher in Law and Public Safety from the New Jersey Department of Education. He is authorized by the New Jersey State Police as a SORA (Security Officer Registration Act) instructor and is authorized by the American Heart Association as a BLS Healthcare Provider CPR and First Aid Instructor.
